The Sam Vaughn Quartet will present an enriching evening of the finest music, including original compositions from the band, straight-ahead jazz, Latin/Brazilian music, fusion, and various other forms of improvisation.
The quartet will feature Sam Vaughn (woodwinds), Dennis Borycki (keys), Stephen Schultz (bass), and Cole Woodard (bass).
Sam Vaughn has played in the University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Ensemble 1 for the last four years on both lead alto and lead tenor. Sam has been awarded High School Jazz Musician of the Year and Collegiate Jazz Musician of the Year by the Oklahoma Jazz Educators Association. Sam recently took 1st place in the collegiate jazz category for the North American Sax Alliance competition. Sam has performed many times at Jazz Educators Network Conventions throughout the US and maintains a busy freelance schedule performing at many jazz clubs in the Oklahoma City metro area. Sam produces an online network service called OKCJazzLife, promoting jazz music in the OKC metro. Sam can be heard on these recent albums: "Sam Vaughn Live @ Studio 7" and "Together Again with the Vince Norman Quintet." He has had the pleasure and privilege of working with and playing alongside greats such as Patrick Bartley, Donny McCaslin, Quamon Fowler, Vince Norman, Jason Marsalis, and Jay Daversa.
