Enjoy an evening of modern, straight-ahead jazz by the Jordan VanHemert Quartet on Thursday, August 8. VanHemert, a stellar saxophonist, will be joined by Oklahoma favorites Dave Bowen on drums, Rei Wang on bass and Brian Belanus on guitar.
Jordan VanHemert is the new Director of Jazz Studies at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Hailed by noted jazz critic Scott Yanow as a "skilled modern improvisor with a sound all his own", VanHemert's music pays homage to his Korean roots and his love for lyrical melodicism of the jazz tradition while driving forward toward the future of the art form.
